WORLD WITHOUT RELIGION

-Himanshi Tiwari

Have you ever thought about what would happen if there was no religion in society? It is often believed and observed throughout the history that religion is the root cause of all the wars or it is just a scapegoat for the evildoers? Does religion do more good for humanity than it harms it or vice-versa? These questions are always raised when we think about a world without religion, but answering these questions is impossible because some questions remained unanswered and these all are one of them.

From ancient times people always needed something to believe in, Gods or Demi-gods as they would call them to answer things which they cannot understand like natural disasters, the concept of day and night etc. With time, humans stepped towards the digital and artificial intelligence world. So, do we need to need religion in this science and technology advanced era?

As we all know, Religion has been a part of human life throughout history. From developing humans spiritually to the attire of humans, religion plays a vital role. It allows people to socialize themselves and lives with an interesting lifestyle with a variety of traditions, cultures, rituals, festivals, etc. Religion does help people having faith in God during their tough times. It brings them a sense of inner peace and hope that everything would turn out to be alright or whatever happening is the act of God and he is doing this for their good. Their spirituality succours them to hold onto things that without religion wouldn’t be possible.

Now, Throwing the light on history, we inherited the rich diversity of food, beliefs, holy books, holy places, etc. due to the existence of religion. It helps people to socialize people and aggregate them even with a different religion. As religion is a man-made institution, it can be good as well as bad for humanity. We daily come across the headlines like war is going on because of religion, terrorists attacked the holy place, fights are going on between the community, etc. The reason for most of the wars and riots is claimed to be religion. Followers are so protective of their religion that anything which hurts their sentiments or belief concerning their religion, they get offended. Religious wars are still prevalent, even today. With the end of humanity, humans are taking advantage of religion in politics and playing with the emotions of innocent citizens.

Somewhere, it is proving the quote “Religion is the root of quite a lot of evil.” by Richard Dawkins.

But it is also important to introspect the question, what if religion vanishes from the world somehow and there will no more religion? Then also, people still would want to follow someone, so we will eventually make a god of our own. Someone we find trustworthy or powerful, like a political leader. The crime and wars will still be happening, as the only thing all religions claim to teach their followers is peace. So, without religion that would happen more frequently. Although people won’t be fighting for their religion that doesn’t mean wars will stop. Then maybe there would be wars between rich and poor, people of colour, or for any other things.

Religion enhances humans spiritually and socially by giving them internal peace. It has the power to make this world as beautiful as heaven or as dark as hell. So, the human should always choose humanity over religion because humans can be recognized by humanity, not by religion.
